Personally I find being up in the hills ideal, as Valpo is a port city so being down by the water isn’t a highlight of a stay in the city. While it’s not really centrally located (it’s a fair walk or taxi to most restaurants), it’s in a quiet area of the city and the views are awesome. Located in the hills overlooking the port, Casa Higueras is my go-to hotel in Valparaiso. This service is really what puts Casa Higueras over the top and makes it a favorite for a comfortable stay in Valpo. The entire staff went above and beyond to make sure guests had a nice time at the hotel and in Valparaiso. The real highlight of Casa Higueras though is the service - from arrival until the end of the stay, they always did their best to help in any way possible. I wouldn't consider it a true 5-star hotel due to the size and lack of some services, but Valparaiso doesn't really have a true 5-star so Casa Higueras is right there at the top for the city. There’s also a nice (though small) outdoor pool and spa area. The hotel is elegant and well-kept, with plenty of space around the hotel to sit and relax. The decor is upscale but comfortable, with dark woods and neutral tones. If you can swing it, I’d go with a Premium Superior room or higher as they have views of the city (many also have balconies) and are quieter than front-facing rooms. As a former mansion that was remodeled into a hotel, there are a number of room categories but no two rooms are the same. There’s a nice on-site restaurant (upscale, seafood-focused) as well that is perfect for a romantic dinner on the patio, or where you can just enjoy the view while having breakfast. 0.65km from downtown Located in the hills overlooking the port, Casa Higueras is my go-to hotel in Valparaiso.
